I’m going to be on vacation – doing VBS at the beach-close church and then beach in the afternoon. For a week’s worth of devotions that I will pre-release on my blog page – free up my mornings for jumping right into VBS… Have a great week!
Seven of John Wesley’s Practices Can Change Hearts Today – an article by Roger Ross: Tactics that John Wesley used to get the Word of God out… The author of this blog reminds us to use these tactics ourselves! Seven practices emerged as characteristic of the early Methodist movement.
NUMBER 3 – SPEAK PLAIN TRUTH
“In Wesley’s day, the Church of England didn’t connect with the real lives of everyday people. Ironically, the ministry of Jesus was just the opposite. When Jesus spoke, “the common people heard him gladly.” Wesley longed to bridge the gap between real faith and real people. Although he was a highly educated Oxford fellow and deeply steeped in the Christian tradition, he refused to parade his scholarship. He chose to speak plain truth for plain people. He intentionally shaped his language so common people could gladly hear the gospel and respond.”
(AMEN – OH HOW WE NEED TO HEAR WHAT WE NEED TO HEAR WHEN WE NEED TO HEAR IT! And the Lord knows how to speak the right way at the right time – through His Word and through His people – and the messages delivered in new contexts will help reinforce the Word – it is not how the Word changes, it is how we hear the Word. The bible has SO MANY stories that relate to today – so if we read our scriptures we can apply them to real life – and if we want to share scriptures, let us make them accessible, not just in every language but in everyDAY language – letting the people see how they relate because they do. AMEN!)
