On this Ash Wednesday, we are starting a Lenten journey of discovery with a devotion reminding us of Jesus – being about His Father’s Business – and about our faith too – a journey of learning:
…
Luke 2:41-52 Jesus About His Father’s Business
Jesus was never lost – it was just that His parents lost track of Him when he was just a pre-teen. But Jesus? Jesus was right ON TRACK – learning and growing and looking for His Father to lead. Jesus was in His Heavenly Father’s House – the Temple – talking to the Scholars – AMAZING them with His Understanding. Jesus said to his earthly parents (days later when they found Him), “Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (see Luke 2:41-52)Jesus was never lost – it was just that His parents lost track of Him – but Jesus? Isn’t that us too? When we are realizing that we are lost – and when that find we are searching for the lost direction in us – that Jesus Himself is trying to lead us – that we find Him being right there – we find ourselves growing too when we get “ABOUT OUR FATHER’S BUSINESS”.
This Lenten season – let us reflect – let us keep walking – let us keep learning – let us see where we left off in refinding ourselves hidden IN the Lord. God has already gone there – to where we need to go – Jesus while growing up was learning too – growing to be old enough to KNOW what He was to focus on – so let us take that lead – and this Lent and always follow Him to find ourselves “about our Father’s business”.
Amen

The Boy Jesus at the Temple
Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” [NKJV: Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”] But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
