This One Shall be Peace, Micah 5 Prophecy of Jesus

Standard

This One shall BE Peace.

When I consulted a scholar about the text of the striking of the judge of Israel, in Micah 5, I gained insight into both the Truth that Jesus is our Peace and that the earthly kings of the day and of their history weren’t.

And in contrast, Jesus Christ is the Ruler, the Judge, the King, the Messiah, the Name above all names, the One of PEACE.

Jesus, Wonderful and Mighty: “whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.”

Jesus is the Sustainer, the Provider, the Hope, the Healing, the Hallelujah.

Jesus is the Feeder of the flock, the Strength, the Majesty, the Great, the One Who shall Be and IS our Peace.

Amen – Welcome Jesus to our Lives and our world – Thank You Lord for Your Peace.

AMEN

Micah 5 NKJV – written a few hundred years before Jesus was born.

The Messiah Will Be Born at Bethlehem

Now gather yourself in troops,
O daughter of troops;
He has laid siege against us;
They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

The Coming Messiah
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”

Therefore He shall give them up,
Until the time that she who is in labor has given birth;
Then the remnant of His brethren
Shall return to the children of Israel.
And He shall stand and feed His flock
In the strength of the Lord,
In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God;
And they shall abide,
For now He shall be great
To the ends of the earth;
And this One shall be peace.

Sermon: Jesus IS the Light

Standard

Just to say I have been SO EXCITED to share this GOOD NEWS in this sermon this morning is an understatement. I have been SO EXCITED all week and ever since I actually got the scripture that helped ILLUMINATE  this year long sermon series – BEEN SO EXCITED – and I will recap today about Jesus being the Light. (And I have a special surprise for everyone) SO EXCITED!!!

TO quote Silent Night: “Son of God, love’s pure light – Radiant beams from Thy holy face – With the dawn of redeeming grace – Jesus Lord, at Thy birth…”

And let us reflect – Hey, that is a LIGHT joke – but really – we are to REFLECT the LIGHT OF THE WORLD –  we are to see and feel and comprehend this Light, to KNOW GOD, to experience this LIGHT and not hide it – and to SHOW LOVE to God and one another by reflecting this Light, to encourage with this LIGHT – the LIGHT of presence and the LIGHT of HOPE – which we can share to GROW COMMUNITY.

As we heard in the John 1 scripture reading this morning: the light coming into the world. The Light SHINES in the darkness – And darkness has not overcome it… In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

YES!

For unto, us, a child is born, unto us a son is given…

Angels proclaimed to lowly shepherds about a Baby in the manger who is Christ the Lord: In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

Scripture tells us that surely the generations and generations ached for this LIGHT to come into the world – after Abraham after Isaac after Jacob, after Moses,  after David but we are told by many prophets and especially Isaiah: that a Savior would come WHEN THE TIME WOULD BE RIGHT, right? That when the SAVIOR would come into the world, He would be the MESSIAH, the Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Prince of Peace.

The LIGHT has come into the world  –  darkness has not overcome it.

And I think there was lots and lots of darkness this week. I mean, I have to shut off the news quite often, but there was a lot this week. And somebody asked me at work if I knew why the flags were at half staff, and I had to say that I didn’t know – But I could imagine half a dozen reasons from this week alone… There’s a lot of darkness in the world.  But remember the victory of Jesus. Remember that the only Healer for this sin sick world  in Jesus and He has entered the world, Immanuel, God with us. And He WILL come again.

I’m sorry we could not gather last week for sharing a message with everyone due to the snow storm. And yet, that snow – that GLORIOUS SNOW – the snow was so brilliantly bright. I felt like I needed sunglasses, and even the next morning when the sun came out, I couldn’t believe how bright it was.

I drove my youngest up to work because you know, the Subaru was in its glory and the brightness of the fresh snow on the trees was immense. I can’t even imagine and my heart can start to feel how immense the light of Jesus coming into the darkness was a gazillion times brighter and IS a gazillion times brighter. When the angels announced to the shepherds about the baby and where to find Him, imagine the LIGHT and seeing the glory of God. But really, we are still not talking about the sunlight nor moonlight not even starlight, We are talking about the light of a Savior.

Quoting Simeon, who got to hold this baby Jesus in his arms, Simeon said this Savior is a consolation for the people of Israel and a LIGHT OF SALVATION TO THE GENTILES –  And as we lit the Advent candles this morning, remember the light was increasing more and more and more. And we talk about physical link to represent Jesus and we have to remember that we’re talking about internal light. We’re talking about direction, talking about the light of hope, the light of lighter burdens. We’re talking about the warmth of the light in the warmth of our hearts. And we also talk about growing community by sharing this hope by being God’s hands and feet, by giving reason for our hope in Jesus and that He goes with us…

————

And now I want us to discuss what this light means to us. And how we can share the impact. And don’t worry, I have not just one prop, knowing you love props, I have a prop for each one of us… and I want to give US the opportunity for each of US to talk about the LIGHT and how have experienced light…

I will give you a minute to collect your thoughts about LIGHT – how you have experienced it or how you may SHINE it …  (Hand out bags of props) – YES! We ALL get to make a prop and take it home and let the LIGHT SHINE with it…

(HAND OUT THE BAGS)

Now before we open our bags – is there anyone who wants to share right away about LIGHT? talk about the LIGHT and how have experienced light? (wait…)

Well, I want you to find the three colorful fringed pieces of paper – each person gets one orange, one yellow and one white…  each person also gets a brown or black base… On these colorful pages, you will find old testament and new testament scriptures about LIGHT – what the LIGHT means – how we share – Who God is – and about faith…

Let us share some (not all) of these scriptures – who wants to pick one from the orange paper – the old testament references? One from the first column  – one from the second – or one from the third? Etc  And the yellow paper – these are many from the gospels and into the first acts… Then the white paper – the acts and the letters and the book of revelation.  Anyone care to read one from those papers? (pick on people if necessary)…   WAIT FOR READINGS

OK – what are we going to do with these scriptures and these props???

I had seen a tremendous show maybe 10 years ago – a new telling of Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” – by the great grandson of Dickens, Gerald Dickens…  and there is always a tidbit of insight to be gained from the re-hearing this classic tale – even if I have seen Scrooge – a Christmas Carol a thousand times – this had a couple small sprinkles of “new to me” verbiage – because it was faithful to the original text which I never heard and is usually omitted from the glitzy productions –

We know that this A Christmas Carol is a redemption story certainly for Scrooge – a return – a repentance – a realization…

And although ghosts of Christmas past present and future are fictious, the part that struck me – and plays into our prop today is from my favorite of the Dickens’ ghosts: the Ghost of Christmas Present – “the like of which you have never seen before” – because every Christmas making life fresh and renewed again…

The text that peaks my interest was/is about the Ghost of Christmas Present’s torch – not only did he shed the LIGHT for Scrooge to see – he SHARED the LIGHT in a fantastical way – the torch shared physical light – yes – but the original text mentions the Ghost sprinkling incense and water drops on people arguing in the streets to make them of good humor – WOW

Here is the text: Imagine Scrooge and the big jovial Ghost of Christmas present walking the streets: “ soon the steeples called good people all, to church and chapel, and away they came, flocking through the streets in their best clothes, and with their gayest faces. And at the same time there emerged from scores of bye-streets, lanes, and nameless turnings, innumerable people, carrying their dinners to the bakers’ shops. The sight of these poor revellers appeared to interest the Spirit very much, for he stood with Scrooge beside him in a baker’s doorway, and taking off the covers as their bearers passed, sprinkled incense on their dinners from his torch. And it was a very uncommon kind of torch, for once or twice when there were angry words between some dinner-carriers who had jostled each other, he shed a few drops of water on them from it, and their good humour was restored directly. For they said, it was a shame to quarrel upon Christmas Day. And so it was. God love it, so it was.”

WOW – love that imagery and that truth that us – not sharing incense not dripping water or fire but sharing light and love – peace and prodding – sharing the living water from Jesus – from the Light? Giving needed relief to the poorest of souls  – all these things causing the people to become more friendly jovial and full of LIGHT especially at Christmas.

SO let us make these torches!  THESE ARE ALL UNIQUE – don’t be afraid!      You will roll the orange paper first  – with the writing on the outside – insert it into the torch and flare the flames out –  and them the yellow paper – rolling  with writing on the outside – and insert it – and then finally white but this time with the writing – and insert that so that you can read the writing from the inside.

Let’s be that beacon  –  light that reflects our Lord – our Hope – our Jesus…

Dickens knew improving the lot of life of those in the 1800’s AND all the world is what Christmas can bring about about – Christmas is an opportunity for us and for the Lord finding the lost and saving the world one soul at a time –

Christmas present is a heartfelt reminder to find peace on earth that is in Christmas – from Christmas – Immanuel God with us…  Reminding in  Christmas – redemption is 100% due to Christ’s birth AND His Sacrifice.

Like Tiny Tim says: God bless us everyone – and Tiny Tim, the character of a little boy with a crutch and legs supported by iron frames, states: “that he hoped the people saw him in the church, because he was a cripple, and it might be pleasant to them to remember upon Christmas Day, who made lame beggars walk, and blind men see.”

Yes we know of Jesus as this Miracle worker but we ALSO know Him of our Salvation – and the Lord who shows us the Way: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus is quoted as saying in John 8:12 SO LET US CHERISH AND FOLLOW THAT LIGHT OF LIFE

So we wrap Up our Advent series  of sermons  still with anticipation of CARRYING this LIGHT – like  the Christ Candle in our hearts and on our wreath  – in our torches –  we remember Jesus, You are Light, You are Love, You are Hope, You are Joy – You are the Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 59 2-4 reminds his people of Israel, of the jews, that: the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. And Isaiah foretells that also the Gentiles shall come to His light, and kings to the brightness of His rising.  Urging for all of us to Lift up your eyes all around, and see…”

Please Pray with me: In the beginning was the word, we know this powerful word is Jesus Lord and Savior that changes community lives, one person at a time.  And so let us take our selves – (take our props – whatever light you can shed and share) – yes AND our hearts and spirits and steps – and be that life of Christmas now – no ghost but real people reaching out to real people with the JOY and energy and HOPE of our Savior. God Love us!

AMEN

Blessing to Those Who Believe, for the “Jesus-Wants to MEET You-ers”, Luke 1-2

Standard

Fulfillment – Blessing – Strengthening – Peace

These are but a few of the benefits of knowing Jesus.

Salvation – Forgiveness – HOPE – JOY – and FOREVERNESS

If you don’t know Jesus – at least know that JESUS WANTS TO MEET YOU

JESUS ALREADY KNOWS US – and each of our souls – souls leap at the knowledge of Jesus – one just has to feel the deep deep leap that is TRYING to be noticed…

Jesus, fully God and fully man, was fully “delivered” by the Holy Spirit before He was even born – and that FULFILLMENT of years of prophecy came first as a message from an Angel Gabriel to Mary, His earthly mothers womb, Mary.  John the Baptist, a prophet from God sent to pre-tell the world about Jesus Messiah, was 6 months grown in his mother’s womb, Mary’s relative Elizabeth. Baby John LEAPT FOR JOY in Elizabeth’s womb upon Mary’s visit to see her. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

Yes blessings abound for those who believe and for those who follow that leap that is deep – the knowledge of Jesus becomes the foundation of faith that continues to bless us – Jesus is the PROMISE fulfilled.

Jesus’s Arrival on Earth was pre-planned from the beginning – and His Return will be our next great prophecy fulfilled – in the meantime – KEEP THE FAITH!

KEEP THE FAITH

AMEN

Luke 1 section: Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told herfrom the Lord.”

Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV Prophecy from hundreds of years prior: For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Luke 1-2 NKJV
Dedication to Theophilus
Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.

John’s Birth Announced to Zacharias
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.

So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense. Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”  And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”

And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he lingered so long in the temple. But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless.

So it was, as soon as the days of his service were completed, that he departed to his own house. Now after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying, “Thus the Lord has dealt with me, in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”

Christ’s Birth Announced to Mary
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

*** Mary Visits Elizabeth

Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

***

The Song of Mary
And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”

And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her house.

Birth of John the Baptist
Now Elizabeth’s full time came for her to be delivered, and she brought forth a son. When her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had shown great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her.

Circumcision of John the Baptist
So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias. His mother answered and said, “No; he shall be called John.”

But they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.” So they made signs to his father—what he would have him called.

And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, “His name is John.” So they all marveled. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, praising God. Then fear came on all who dwelt around them; and all these sayings were discussed throughout all the hill country of Judea. And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, “What kind of child will this be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.

Zacharias’ Prophecy
Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

“Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited and redeemed His people,
And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of His servant David,
As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets,
Who have been since the world began,
That we should be saved from our enemies
And from the hand of all who hate us,
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers
And to remember His holy covenant,
The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
To grant us that we,
Being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

Christ Born of Mary
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Glory in the Highest
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

Circumcision of Jesus
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

Jesus Presented in the Temple
Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

Simeon Sees God’s Salvation
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:

“Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”

And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Anna Bears Witness to the Redeemer
Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

The Family Returns to Nazareth
So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

The Boy Jesus Amazes the Scholars
His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”

And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

Jesus Advances in Wisdom and Favor
Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

God Will Reign Today

Standard

A poem…

.

It might rain today,

But that’s OK.

I prepped, tucked things away.

SPRING SUMMER FALL WINTER, Hey!

God WILL reign today.

.

Feeling small? Feeling tall?

We are no comparison to life in all.

Our days pass away faster than we can recall.

But God thinks we are the most important sheep of all.

God will bless us all.

.

Watching the world go by?

Understand it all? Don’t even try!

Wars, famine, earthquake, temperatures that fry?

Jesus says don’t be troubled, you and I, keep living, TRY.

God knows this all, God created this earth and sky.

.

Jesus says the beginnings of sorrows is today’s tomorrow’s.

Don’t grow cold. Be lovingly BOLD!

Skip the hate, tell others of God’s Love so overcomingly great!

Don’t be lured by deception, Jesus knew these times from inception.

Trust Jesus, not the World.

That’s the message on our flags to unfurl.

Write it on every sign, say it in rhyme.

Live the attitude of “GOD LOVES YOU”, there is nothing else, nothing better to say or do.

TRUE!

.

Trust Jesus to get us through.

God will reign today.

Know that is TRUE.

Amen

——–

Matthew 24:6-13

New King James Version

And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

Love is the Greatest Power, Memorial Day 2025

Standard

It’s Memorial Day and although it’s universal for wars to happen, it’s also universal for wanting peace enough to fight for it. It is good for us to remember a sacrifice from those committed to serve without questioning, to fight forward to advance a cause, and to retreat when cutting losses.

We often feel it makes no sense the wars we often fight, but it makes perfect sense the wars fought for peace. Wars happen. It’s a strange situation of human brokenness to fight, and yet the Lord has warriors fighting on the deepest levels, the highest grounds, the lowest lows. The war in Heaven for us is the peace-making power the Lord employs, strange but sacred, tested but true.

What are we to do? Work in the peace already garnered. Work for the peace and work at the peace for wars already won. Be the peacemakers in life, negate the strife with LOVE.

And remember those who have been fighting for us all to have a better life, especially those who’ve passed away. This is why we celebrate Memorial Day – in humble thankfulness.  They fought under command. They fought for love of country and of man and prayerfully they were reaching out to God for guidance. They sacrificed so we could live, so we could keep loving.

Wars will cease one day. Let us not wait for then to begin to love our enemies. We love under command too. Don’t let love grow cold. Don’t let love be forgotten as the greatest power.

Jesus says: “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…

… Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

The Road to Somewhere

Standard

Silly Spiders in the Spirit!

Yeah I could claim that I was supposed to “run into” one friend last night, who was one of the many organizers at a camp retreat event for 3day 3night immersion into deeper growing in faith. I perhaps was supposed to run into LOTS of people, or not. I was just there because I could. I had the time. I wanted to be “an encourager” – a warm body even but surely a warm soul with a smile. I wanted to be with “my people” if only for an hour before driving home. I could also state that I wanted to absorb the feel of camp for just a few minutes without staying and yes the drive in the green rolling hills of farmland was worth it – the stream was worth it – the peace was palatable.

I could say I was supposed to chat with her in particular for our conversation that compared OUR attitudes to the differences of this year to last year,  when we both were on the organization team. This year I felt that I was not going to be on the team, maybe next year. THis year I felt the Lord had different plans for me. And for her, this year felt different too, in being on this organizing committee, so much more understanding that she didn’t have to understand the whole plan, in that she said she felt MORE peace in letting the Lord handle the weekend, the interactions, the service with a spirit smile while helping others in their faith journey.

Simply stating that it’s good for ALL of ourselves to get ourselves out of THE way of the Lord’s Way, and LET the Lord place us in His Purpose FOR a plan for SOMEONE ELSE, yeah, and give us the PEACE OF MIND to be OK. To let the Lord use us without us knowing everything.

A road to SOMEWHERE.

I was listening to the perky tune, great for driving later at night home, “I’m on a Road to Nowhere” as sung by the Talking Heads… love that song for the beat…  But I am not interpreting the lyrics good or bad, just to compare it to the path of a road to SOMEWHERE that the Lord knows rather than a road to nowhere that you don’t even have direction to get there.

And maybe we are simply to be simple in spirit knowing the Lord has this Road to SOMEWHERE – and scripture tells us to work hard while we are riding along the Spirit highways of life. Paul said in a letter to the 1 Thessalonians 5:12-14 “Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.

Oh the spiders? Well, I’ve been helping a mutual friend of ours pack her house – and this bag of halloween shiny sparkle spiders kept getting in the way and i was going to use it as fluff stuffing – but my friend told me to just take the spiders for any reason but to just get it out of the mix of the things were were packing. Later she reminded me that perhaps I had found a purpose for them – no I hadn’t even gotten them out of the car – and then, haha, my camping friend started to complain about the bugs and maybe a big spider would show up in her room. Mentally I immediately remembered the sparkly spiders in my car – plastic of course – and yeah…  where did they end up? on her bed…  Just some humor of being nowhere but somewhere but no idea why and just being in the moment…  Well, there is no spiritual connection to the spiders, but there is a moment to thank the Lord for our mindset to set ourselves in His Positions. It was not the most spiritual thing of spiders, it was just fun. And if we have peace, we can have fun too….

Amen

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

AMEN!!!

Rest in Jesus, Who Calms the Storms, the Lamb Slain, Revelation 13, Mark 4, Isaiah 53

Standard

A tiny poem:

Whatever you do, don’t worship the beast, not even a little, not even in jest.

Don’t let the devil nip at you, don’t let him disturb you in your rest. (IN JESUS).

.

And that’s true, isn’t it? We tend to joke around. We have a tendency to jest about ourselves as being bad. We both forget God’s mercies and we think “I’m not worthy” – Well, God says you ARE WORTHY to be saved – that is why Jesus is the Lamb Slain from the Creation of the World. Let us not let the evil one confuse us. We are worthy because of Jesus.

If we stand strong in our faith and demonstrate faithfulness – then perhaps others will see HOW important faith is – for them to take it seriously too. SO don’t play with fire, don’t jest with the joker, and don’t give the devil anything to latch on to. Jesus wants us 100% reliant upon Him, and not fear evil – even unto death.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” That’s what Jesus said as he calmed the storms…

Isaiah foretold that we would have trouble in this world. “This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.” – because the Lamb was slain from the creation of the world BEFORE it all went down. And Jesus Came so we will rise up again. Just like waves of the water. Don’t let the Devil rock your boat in between. Rest with Jesus. Rest IN Jesus. Rest because of Jesus.

Remember the Isaiah 53 scripture: “he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

Amen

Rest in Jesus, our Lamb. Keep living LIFE in His Peace.

Amen

Mark 4:35-41 NIV Jesus Calms the Storm
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Revelation 13 NIV The Beast out of the Sea

The dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast. People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?”

The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

Whoever has ears, let them hear. “If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.” This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.

The Great Inside, 2025

Standard

It’s 2025, 3 days in… Thank God it’s Friday – that sentiment is great and the relief of whatever this relief is, going into a weekend, is palatable. Thank God it’s Friday is a known in a world of unknowns, especially 3 days in what we think is a new fresh year… yet already there’s been tragedies and continuing wars, fear and fear mongering hype, and hype for everything including the weather… the hype there comes deeper than the snow…

Deeper than snow or hype is evil, and we have seen enough this year alone, it’s sad that we deal with a broken world and there’s not going to be solid relief until Jesus returns (I urge “any cloud now” as we pray “Lord return quickly”) and because Jesus will put the devil out of business permanently, once and for all. We DO need to know Jesus already commanded Satan to backdown and we have to call upon Jesus to keep moving. We have hope day to day in Peace that people are trying to forge, us too – that’s where we also should be the peacemakers. “Blessed are the peacemakers“, Jesus said, “for they shall be called children of God.” Most of all we need to be the children the Lord calls us to be.

And that’s where, in this new year, we can find our strength, in Jesus as PRINCE OF PEACE. Jesus, as Lord, understands us and the efforts to be peacemakers, especially urging us to see further than the now. We know of future peace and can apply that ourselves mentally for His sake. Like a blessing of new years, or any day off, or a Friday on a Friday, we can apply a peace mission as an overlay each day and keep moving forward.

Finding peace as a mission is not an impossible task like pushing an elephant up the stairs or bending spoons as a magic trick, both of which are mentioned in a great song by REM, “The Great Beyond” – singing about looking for answers in the great beyond, whatever the lyricist thought that is or was. The “trick” of living is not in mastering tricks or ease of living as much as it is in living in ease with knowing God’s in charge. We might be in a milieu of a messy world now, which hasn’t been non-messy ever since the Garden of Eden, but we can pause to pursue the peace inside, our peace which a PEACEMAKER made that for us, HolySpirit-style, and that is by Jesus Himself. Jesus IS a child of God, Who is God Himself. We must hold on to Him.

The Great Beyond has nothing compared to looking at JESUS’S FACE RIGHT IN FRONT OF US – better yet is feeling His arms wrapped around us.

I’ll listen to the song of the Great Beyond – but for this year, I will cling to Jesus in the Great Inside. Jesus put His peace protectively inside. The Great Inside. 2025…

Amen

Hebrews KJV chapter about Jesus, 10:20-25, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025!

Standard

Trust. Forgiveness. Abundance. Goodness. Peace. A Path Forward.

Those are the continual themes for the last week of readings in the Jesus Calling daily devotional – which I didn’t read until now because I didn’t take the time. Time flies, right? It’s already next year! Yeah! Thank God for extended Christmas spirits and Christmas refrigerators too, because there’s even so much christmas food that has to WAIT until we have time to eat it! So, it’s not hard to imagine that it is tough to process the end of the year at the end of the year or the beginning of the next!

NEW YEAR 2025 is already here! So, yes, THANK YOU LORD, for FAITH in TRUST, FORGIVENESS, GOODNESS, PEACE, ABUNDANCE and a PATH FORWARD. These are consistent themes for us NOW and in the future. Let us look to the Lord to fulfill our relationship with Him and others AND trust in the Lord in the times of trials, of which 2025 surely will have.

It’s impossible to not feel both relief and sadness of the Christmas stuff that isn’t so important a week later. It really shows us that like the uneaten ugh calories, we need to toss the falsehood that may have creeped into Christmas and get back to the strong sustenance, the protein of provision of the Lord’s coming, His Daily Bread.

Thank You Lord for the new year and the consistent never ending You!

Amen

Merry Christmas, Jesus is Here!

Standard

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

A blessing of Christmas is to realize we made it to Christmas, actually it was coming whether we were ready or not.  Now, let us be praying for Christmas realization in everyone’s hearts, with Christmas commotion and commodity now to be calmed, if just for a moment. There is no power that could separate us from the love of Christ and the calming He gives us, if we tap into this peace and see His Work within our hearts. Therefore soak in the Savior over every situation.

Recently I saw the glow of the Spirit in the glow of the face of a sweet young lady portraying Mary at a Living Nativity, she BEAMED! The cautious Joseph watched on… The scene a JOY in the middle of chaos as there was a swirl of family chitchatting, kids exuberant in running around, and animals all around. It was a sight to see, but mostly a moment of peace in chaos to know Christmas is Christ coming for you and me, for all.

When Jesus came, it WAS chaos and confusing scenes in the land, times of upheaval and strife. But the few paying attention to the prophets were to know there would be a Messiah, the Lord above all, to be born in Bethlehem. Micah tells of the judgment of the people, but the Savior too, stating Jesus is to be known: AND THIS ONE SHALL BE PEACE.

Peace is a personal journey – let us all know a peace that comes from Jesus and shine this knowledge and contentment of our forever, if just for a moment, if just in a smile.

Merry Christmas!

For now He shall be GREAT To the ends of the earth; AND THIS ONE SHALL BE PEACE.

AMEN

Micah 5:1-5, old testament, prophet states: The Messiah Will Be Born at Bethlehem

Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops; He has laid siege against us; They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

The Coming Messiah

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me THE ONE TO BE RULER in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”

Therefore He shall give them up, Until the time that she who is in labor has given birth; Then the remnant of His brethren Shall return to the children of Israel. And HE SHALL STAND AND FEED HIS FLOCK In the strength of the Lord, In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God; And THEY SHALL ABIDE, For now He shall be GREAT To the ends of the earth; AND THIS ONE SHALL BE PEACE.

A Jesus Jumpstart of JOY

Standard

Oh we’re getting down to the wire, and I started placing the ornaments on the tree, it seemed the right timing to start. I put Christmas movies on as well, to help my energy, I need Jesus to Jumpstart my battery. However I was starting to grumble to myself, I was complaining at Christmas, I’m sure it’s common, and there is a natural frustration in the preparation, this time of year. Terrible to say but true. And it IS WORK to pull Christmas decorations presents cards food, etc, all together, isn’t it?! and is it appreciated? etc etc? Hmmm…

Grumble Grumpy Grrrr…

And then…. I saw the reminder word: “JOY”, a JOY ornament engraved on a wood piece…

That’s the ornament sensation that snapped me back to remembering the JOY of Christmas, and it’s not about grumbling. Where’s my JOY? Jesus,  help, geeze. I DID have a good day already, so why am/was I grumbling?!!! I did get time for this right now, but the “why didn’t I get help?” creeped in… well, I just then got help: HolySpirit conviction against complaining and a Jesus Jumpstart of JOY. JOY is the focus and the benefit of the season, so JOY has got to be a RETRAINING word, giving us (me) and a better focus on the deep meaning of Chrisrmas being Jesus, Immanuel, God with us.

J.O.Y. can remind us of our priorities:

Jesus

Others

Yourself, in that order. You are last, Jesus is first.

And for Jesus? JOY is a fruit of the spirit given to those who open their hearts to heaven, their focus to growing, their branches to bringing forth God’s fruit.

And yes, my mental shift started, acceptance wise, not just because I like ornaments on my tree too, but that others in my house DO really appreciate it all coming together, any potential visitors would love to see the tree and ornaments. So, in this early decorating, when I found the star that was buried in the ornaments and placed it on the top of the tree I finally got the attention and agreement with the placements position. (And then people in the house started helping, whew…)

Yes, I got the star straight, and I got my priorities re-straight – to think of Jesus is to know He sacrificed and went the extra mile.  To think of others is to especially know you can go the extra mile. And yourself? To think of yourself is to remember that you’re going to have forever to sit down and relax, so keep moving now.

And when you think of yourself and forever? Who brings that to you now? Jesus.

We are in the home stretch, so rest well, and rehydrate and rejoice, and re-JOY again and again.

Thank you Holy Spirit for the Jesus JOY reminder!

Amen

PS, later I found the magnet I thought I lost in a pocket, but there it was on my fridge and I misses it – it says: “PRAY HARDEST WHEN IT IS HARDEST TO PRAY” – YES!!!

And like a Christmas tree with hundreds of decorations and plenty of branches to decorate, let us remember that in ourselves there are many places to bear fruit. Jesus, the Vine, said we are the branches, so let’s keep keeping them open for the Lord to hang fruit! The fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS AND SELF-CONTROL. Galatians 5:22-23

Jesus will find many nooks and crannies to fill. Don’t expect these from the world, but in yourself as Jesus builds your faith in Him and life to live in God’s love. Especially Lord, please give us of Your JOY!!! Jesus could say J.O.Y. stands for “Jumpstarts, Oh Yeah…”

Amen Amen

But You DO Know Adam

Standard

Isn’t it funny when you overhear a conversation? Whether you’re supposed to hear it or they wanted you to hear it or they didn’t care if you heard it… It’s like being on the train and any conversation you have you have to realize other people hear… maybe we should talk about forgiveness more than griping, just a thought…

Well, the phrase I heard was: “I don’t know them from Adam.” Hmmm…. Agreed. We don’t know most people, or how they got from Adam or much about them. True. But in overhearing that statement, whether the person wanted me to hear it or not, they obviously didn’t know me from Adam either and how I would interpret any conversation from them. And for me, I write, I process, I read a room, I interpret. (And often we need to forgive even before we hear.)

One can say “l don’t know you from Adam”, but I’d have to respond with saying: “But you do know Adam, RIGHT?” … YEAH, If you knew Adam, you would know attributes of each person. It’s humans being broken, people having confusion, sometimes having moments of preservation sometimes warranted, sometimes greed, and people who hide their insecurities and wrongs. Knowing Adam means that we should know that people can be influenced by evil influences and lose track of how much God loves them. And you would feel God’s pain at the lack of peace. Surely we know God is Peace and He wants to be known.

If you knew Adam, you would also know that he would know the brokenness in families and culture, especially with Adam being father to Cain and Abel, one family filled with jealousy and seemingly got to the breaking point. Adam would see one rule follower and one who didn’t obey or didn’t understand the sacrifices necessary. One would likely feel compassion for the complications Adam lived with, especially banished from the garden of provisions, now having to toil harder.

That’s how we can look at people. And know without knowing.

That’s how we can have compassion, sometimes tough love, and sometimes just walking away. Forgiveness is key.

And how about that second Adam? Do you know the second Adam? Not the replacement model but the Restoration Role? We know the second Adam as Jesus. Recovery, Restoration, Really Ready, Real, Righteous, Redeemer. REACHING TEACHING LOVING. Jesus came to do all these things and He also came SO we would know Him and His servanthood, and know the path TO the Father is through Him. Jesus came and God wanted Him to be known as the Savior, the Sacrifice, and gift of the Spirit of God into each of us from before the world was formed.

We do know Adam and THANK GOD, we DO know Jesus. It’s important to know people are people. We have to be careful and at the same time, WE HAVE TO LOVE. We have to often steer clear and we have to sacrifice and walk into situations. Serving the Lord means sticky situations with humans like Adam, but clean consciousness of working with them in Living Water washed hopes.

At any rate, make sure we introduce the Jesus we know to the Adam’s we know…  INCLUDING OURSELVES. Because certainly we do know Adam and have met him endless times. AND Prayerfully we do know Jesus and how to apply Jesus to a situation. Remember, Jesus already saved, God already won, so we are finishing out our time on earth here, picking up His process to peace, until Jesus comes again.

Amen and Peace

Isaiah knew these folks of darkness, all from the separation doing of the devil: ch8:20-22

Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.”

Isaiah knew of the HOPE: ch9:6-7

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called:

WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE.

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

Slowed Down Homebody-style Peace

Standard

It’s not just that I DON’T NEED anything shopping-wise for Black Friday, it’s also just so nice to be HOME, day off… No shopping for TVs, no electronics, no groceries, no fuss…  Even the red subaru in the driveway contented to rest, was more decorative than driven with the rain bringing down bright matching red leaves on it. Gorgeous.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving day yesterday. I am SO THANKFUL for home, my crew being here.

New stuff we ate, but of old-time homebody classics of turkey, stuffing, cranberry etc. A mixture of easy store-bought mixed with homecooked – that’s the homebody way.  I pulled out a picnic table red gingham tablecloth so not traditional, but one from my grandmother’s farmhouse, to pair, not matching at all, with the dishes from my other grandmother. New food, old structure, memories made smiles in my heart.

Just like the food mixture store and made, yesterday, I have old-school technology around me today plus new technology – it’s a mix. Yes, conveniently new technology does exist in this house (I am writing on my phone), but homebody joy is making it all work to make life more slowed down easy, at least for one day.

So, no Black Friday shopping needed today, even if it just a click away. We went old school yesterday with finding the old VHS player and watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Great Pumpkin – easier than a streaming service! Nice… In that old school search, I also found the DVD player and TV antenna insignia box that we got years ago, and yes this morning I hooked it up.

So where is my devotion in all this? It’s that the Lord gives time to ponder… Sitting here, I am finding time in my pondering to be close to both joy in isolationism on a day of escapism from commercialism, and that the kids are asleep, and that there is more pie in my future.

So I will – hope you will take some peace today to yourself.

Tomorrow is another day, and a weekend at that, and so tomorrow we will ponder some more… in the meantime I ponder homebody-style.

Thank you Lord for the pondering and the peace

And the pie...

Amen

From Psalm 34:8-14

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

THANKFULNESS for being THANKFUL

Standard

Hope you (and whomever you gather, or whomever has gathered you), have a peaceful-filled day, a day of thanks, a sharing of knowledge and goodies, and a pie or two…

And if by yourself, remember that the Lord IS with you, ALWAYS. We remember to pray for those having tough times and loss. We have the gift of prayer as we are to know we are also prayed for. I’m thankful for that!

Last night, my night “Growth Group” gathered on ZOOM as usual, with talk of the thankfulness for the Lord’s daily reminders to TRUST HIM. An encouragement conversation that struck me so importantly was in LETTING THE LORD HAVE CONTROL over the healing of a particular situation, not to take control over it, but be willing to let Him work it out.

THAT’S LIKE LETTING SOMEONE ELSE COOK IN YOUR KITCHEN!

Oh, that’s tough!!! Someone else cooking in your kitchen, ugh, we feel like it’s too much until we get out of the way ourselves. Letting the Lord work, cook up healing and hearty hope, is like giving up the control but still eating the dinner, and truly it would be the BEST dinner for the Lord’s ways are above our ways. We participate but He directs. We can perhaps bring Him the pie dish and let Him fill it.

Maybe we want to have a piece of the “pie of satisfaction” today – but isn’t that less tasty than the whole pie of THANKFULNESS.

Adding the whipped cream onto the pie is the THANKFULNESS of the Lord in all situations. [Even finding ourselves giving up your kitchen for others to cook in. Even letting others make plans, even keeping the peace by taking the pie piece out to another room to enjoy quietly later]. May we all be finding that it is best to bite into THANKFULNESS…

May we be thankful for so many things.

And looking outside at the rain right now, as the cat and I are sitting in the quiet, may we remember that in time, sticky situations will pass, parades will strut, games will get under way, pie will be served – and peace, that PEACE WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING, gifted by the Lord, will PREVAIL.

May there be whipped cream on your pie (even for breakfast), THANKFULNESS in all, and especially LOVE in your heart.

Blessings to all…

Here are some acrostic poems in thankfulness.

Remember Help and Sharing, for Veteran’s Day, Armistice Day, St. Martin’s Day, 11NOV

Standard

It is a blessing to know that there are those who help – who lay down their lives to help – and we salute Veterans’ Day thanking those who served – we cherish Armistice Day grateful for a stop to fighting in World War One – and (new to me) learn about St. Martin’s Day and his gift of half his cloak in a cold winter to a beggar with none.

This is the season of thankfulness, of helping, of harvest  and of fruits and vegetables that last – if kept in cool temperatures – like squash and apples – seeds and nuts… This is the season of cooler temps and today (first time in over a month) there is rain – beautiful rain – and perfect season setting…

The story of St Marin (from Wikipedia) says that ‘Martin of Tours (died 397) was a Roman soldier who was baptized as an adult and became a bishop in Gaul. He is best known for the tale whereby he cut his cloak in half with his sword, to give half to a beggar who was dressed in only rags in the depth of winter. That night Martin had a vision of Jesus Christ wearing the half-cloak.’

Jesus is our hero and our martyr and our helper and our priest above all priests – above all angels – above all saints. Jesus IS God – and this act of helping one person is the act of helping Jesus – as Jesus said Himself, like the song lyric: ‘whatever you do for the least of my brothers – that you do unto me’…

And with my aptly-found printout of the Lost Son Parable from Luke 15, we remember that God as the Father to His wayward children – He is always looking for us to come home.

And so today – we remember – we remember the helpers – like the soldiers and the peace keepers – we remember those who remember us and share with us – and we remember the ultimate remembering: THAT GOD LOVED US FIRST.

God loved us so much to help us.

Thank you Jesus.

Amen

The Sheep and the Goats – Matthew 25:31-46
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Purple Peace

Standard

It was a glimpse of my friend’s hair then stature then face that caught my eye at a recent town festival. We embraced immediately. Love that lady!!! and I feel love from her.

It did NOT matter that we had different color stickers on, acquired from opposite sides of the pavement pounder party pushers. We embraced and together perhaps not our stickers touched, but our souls did, as did our hearts. And we made quite the PURPLE PAIR.

Purple is red and blue – blue and red – PURPLE. Purple is the color of PEACE. Purple is the color of the royal prince of PEACE. Purple is the POWERFUL PEACE color for JESUS.

I’m glad that we can come together in purple. I’m blessed to know that we are together in Jesus.

Jesus said that someday we will all worship in spirit and in truth. We know from the Old Testament of many , many , many different lines of people and faiths and attitudes… we today are splintered light.

I pray we all see the light of Jesus.

Purple power to bring PEACE.

Amen

John 4:19-42

The [Samaritan] woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.”

Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

The Whitened Harvest

And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why are You talking with her?”

The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” Then they went out of the city and came to Him.

In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”

Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”

The Savior of the World

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. And many more believed because of His own word.

Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

Merry Christmas in July!

Merry Christmas in July!

Don’t let this heat and humidity make you sigh!

We are not decorating like December, just adding a splash of red and green to the eye.

It is a moment to let our Christmas Spirit multiply.

Born a baby, grown a Savior, a lamb slain, yet Jesus forever IS young and spry.

And what’s the gift today I pray to encourage and spy?

Wider faith in all, Holy Spirit to touch us all, by and by.

Try moments to remember ‘God IS with us’ – ALREADY. Try hope, just try.

So let us be the JOY today, an inner and outward SMILE we will apply and re-apply.

Let us ring out Hope JOY Peace and LOVE, this MERRY CHRISTMAS IN JULY!!!

AMEN

Titus 3:1-8 NKJV

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

Memorial Day prayers – Life and all that…

Standard

Ah – Memorial Day weekend – oh how I feel like resting not working, but I know that my yard calls to me – will do that first and then later – maybe – will tackle the garden – but not yet – that bug has not quite bit me – but the flower beds do… Flowers are traditionally planted on Memorial Day weekend – for the living and for the fallen.

Oh how unbelievable war is – and this Memorial Day we honor those who have fallen in war – we remember all of our loved ones no longer with us – it is time for flowers and parades. Parties and picnics too…  And even my old friends camping in Gettysburg this weekend are doing civil war reenactments…  We have a nostalgia for the past. However we have failing memories of the present, we really do. If our news cycle is spinning somewhere else, we forget about the current challenges – I certainly do…

A friend asked me, at work, to help with making a thank you for some children in the Ukraine to boost their spirits – to thank them for gifts that they made our site which were their way to say thank you for some donations – including cleaned up equipment donated to a school. These children are the future and we forget the hardships there and practically everywhere – not everyone forgets but if I forget then others must forget too…  So for me to be the “photographer”, this was the smallest slice of my energy to send prayers and well wishes to those kids in war. Lest we forget that EVERYONE needs our encouragement.

And it IS easy to forget far away places when it is so beautiful and peaceful in our pockets of peace here. Just like last week, when in the center of the city, when I helped with a community garden, the peace was punctuated with birds chirping – having the airspace and trees to roam. Our children too need these places, places like schools and clubs, neighborhoods and church activities…  We raise our kids and then we forget about the other kids…  I don’t know the answer to this but to keep praying… We can’t fix the world but we can fix-up the small places we live in. We can pray-forth the people we can’t touch.

Another prayer would be for those times that we must put distance and not closeness into our lives – for people whom we purposefully don’t have contact with – and know it is for the best – everyone has long stories of these times. And this “healthy” separation of life brokeness can only be placed into God’s Hands. Thanking God for the buffer and asking His forgiveness for the fracture – and knowing there is good space in buffer of space and time and moving on…  Another reason that we need God Himself to be our healing force – we can’t do it ourselves and there are times we don’t want to do it – but one day – if not today – and often it is not today – God’s forgiveness will reign.  We can try to tap into that if we can’t muster it ourselves.

And a last prayer (for this blessed quiet morning) is for the acknowledgement of the challenges that the Lord has gotten us over in the past and therefore we must remember He will get us through the ones in our future – near future and distant future. He will heal wounds, He will preserve peace with a restoration and not a quick fix, He will rule and reign and return. All knees will bow.

Let us bow our hearts in praise, hurt, humility, and hope. Where we can only fathom peace, God IS Peace.

God bless ALL!

Amen

Time to SHINE Your Light! Easter Monday

Standard

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:5 KJV

The artwork on the projection screen portrayed to be a tomb, opened for Easter, ALSO looked like an eye shining! No fooling! I saw both!

So fitting for now IS our time to SHINE OUT the LOVE of Jesus, SPEAK out the HOPE of Salvation, and BEAM for all to see…

The stone rolled away by God opens the possibilities for us to see and to know that the Miracle of Jesus Rising is a New Day in this New Covenant. Our eyes opened to see – a morning of HOPE after darkness made us linger in our fears. Now the blessed hope of Jesus is beaming the beaming light to come out from us – to come from the place within. Jesus motivates us to LIGHT up the world. He sends us!

Let us go out and SHINE His Light to overcome all darkness. Let us love boldly and humbly. The darkness won’t comprehend this light, but it won’t be able to deny it either.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 NIV

Hallelujah! Jesus Christ is Risen! Peace IS with us. Go SHINE. Go Be His Beam. Go with God.

Amen

Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”  After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:19-21

I’ll Be Home for Christmas – in My Heart

Standard

People always ask: “Are you ready for Christmas” – ??? – Well, is it best to answer them with my fumbling list of people’s presents not yet purchased let alone conceived? – or say “Well,  at least I got my tree! No decorations but at least I am still watering it. “…. HMMM… I think I will try to answer spiritually next time,  “I’m ready in my heart. “… I’m ready for the true meaning of Christmas in my heart. Amen on that.

“I’ll be Home for Christmas” – “you can count on me. ” – Oh the song resonates with me and the longing too. But I realized one could sing it in reverse thought – to receive people home for Christmas, like “I’ll be the Home for your Christmas, come Home here.”… Yes, please have all the meaningful Christmas token things here with me at my house… And yes, since my daughter (I hope) will be returning from college (I hope) at least on that overnight and day, to be here (I hope and pray), instead of her independent-apartment-grown-up-lifestyle these days, I’m praying that she comes home for Christmas. I’m blessed she’s independent but I want her to know, both my kids to know, they have a Home with me for Christmas and ALWAYS.  SO, “I’ll be home for Christmas” – “you can count on me” – count on Mom, I will pray they know that, I’m sure they do.

And what about that real meaning of Christmas? Are we standing yearning like Charlie Brown: “Isn’t there anyone who understands what Christmas is all about?” Remember the classic pause in the Peanuts Christmas practice musical for Linus to recite the scripture from Luke 2:8-14, and let us absorb that and keep walking towards that real reason, Jesus IS the One Who beckons us: I’ll be your HOME for Christmas, I will receive you, let Me be your Home inside your heart. Know Me inside you and know My Peace.

Through Jesus, as Christ the Lord God and Savior, we are welcomed Home forever with God. May we also be Home with Him in our hearts everyday. Making a good welcome for Him in JOY.

Amen

Linus Van Pelt quoting scripture: “And there were in the same country. shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them. And they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of GREAT JOY, which shall be to ALL PEOPLE. For unto you is born this day in the City of David A SAVIOR, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host, praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, Goodwill toward men.’ “
