Slowed Down Homebody-style Peace

Standard

It’s not just that I DON’T NEED anything shopping-wise for Black Friday, it’s also just so nice to be HOME, day off… No shopping for TVs, no electronics, no groceries, no fuss…  Even the red subaru in the driveway contented to rest, was more decorative than driven with the rain bringing down bright matching red leaves on it. Gorgeous.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving day yesterday. I am SO THANKFUL for home, my crew being here.

New stuff we ate, but of old-time homebody classics of turkey, stuffing, cranberry etc. A mixture of easy store-bought mixed with homecooked – that’s the homebody way.  I pulled out a picnic table red gingham tablecloth so not traditional, but one from my grandmother’s farmhouse, to pair, not matching at all, with the dishes from my other grandmother. New food, old structure, memories made smiles in my heart.

Just like the food mixture store and made, yesterday, I have old-school technology around me today plus new technology – it’s a mix. Yes, conveniently new technology does exist in this house (I am writing on my phone), but homebody joy is making it all work to make life more slowed down easy, at least for one day.

So, no Black Friday shopping needed today, even if it just a click away. We went old school yesterday with finding the old VHS player and watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Great Pumpkin – easier than a streaming service! Nice… In that old school search, I also found the DVD player and TV antenna insignia box that we got years ago, and yes this morning I hooked it up.

So where is my devotion in all this? It’s that the Lord gives time to ponder… Sitting here, I am finding time in my pondering to be close to both joy in isolationism on a day of escapism from commercialism, and that the kids are asleep, and that there is more pie in my future.

So I will – hope you will take some peace today to yourself.

Tomorrow is another day, and a weekend at that, and so tomorrow we will ponder some more… in the meantime I ponder homebody-style.

Thank you Lord for the pondering and the peace

And the pie...

Amen

From Psalm 34:8-14

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
