We are different from each other – we really are – and I was reminded of this recently by the similarities of two actors whom I thought were one person: Bernard Fox who appeared in Hogan’s Heros and Bewitched, and David Tomlinson who appeared in Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Well, they ARE different – both witty British comedic actors – both a delight to watch – but individual people. We are all individuals with real roles to play.
God makes us unique. God knows what makes us into us, and knows every hair on our head, so He must also know each fold in our brain and feature of our face. Of course He knows every feature of our faith too. He knows what role we try to play but He knows us in truth, intimately in every way. We can not hide from Him.
In the time of the apostles, after Jesus came and was ascended to Heaven, there are two sets of people mentioned in the writings by Paul to encourage togetherness: Gentiles and Jews – two roles in God’s Real Play of people. God intended spreading of the Gospel of Good News to both groups, who had real divisions and real uniqueness. Paul reminded that Jesus did not come to abolished any role or make one type of person into another, but to make all these people into His people thru the advocate of His Holy Spirit.
Paul in his letter to the Ephesians chapter 2:14-22 was describing what Jesus did and does: “For he [Jesus] Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups [Jews and Gentiles] one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
We are being built together to become a dwelling place for God’s Spirit!
One of the biggest memories I have for my faith awakening is that the Lord Himself was in charge of it and He let me know that! He made me acutely aware that He knew where my faith was and wasn’t. His Holy Spirit knows and flows, but we must not clog our system with diversions and delusions! We may simply be unaware what the depth of faith in us could be, but we are as deep as He dwell in us. We must keep diving divinely deeper. The Lord knows how He tucked the folds of our faith inside each of us for when He chooses to unfold each crevices to open. He challenges us to walk new faith roads that have unfolded.
Your faith – my faith – our faith – He alone orchestrates the non-coincidences of placement of challenges and joys. He sends His Word to work in our lives… We need to share what we discover as we are given the command to spread the Good News.
He alone is Whom we praise. We are not to elevate even His saints or fellow men over Him. We already have direct access Him… He knew us before He made us.
It is OK to ask for help in our faith journey, I sure did. No two folds or paths are the same – but the Path itself, being narrow and not wide, is laid down by the One who opens it to lead us to walk towards Him.
Jesus desired and desires to shine within each of us – let us realize we are all IN Christ as He indwells in us.
One Body, One God.
One Hope, One Peace.
