We must continually think about how we and our world will get from point A to point B with navigating the fray, and how we will follow thru with helping others, and especially without doing much harm. I know that the Lord helps us to GO. GO! God connects and God directs.
My old testament reading reminded me that we as humans tend to over complicate, over compensate, over run instead of listening to God. In Genesis 34, the story is about the escalation of many crimes after one crime. Dinah, Jacob’s daughter was defiled by someone who retroactively said he wanted to marry her, then after negotiations of this family line with Jacob’s sons and agreeing to circumcision of all their males in exchange for permission of intermingling intermarriage in the cultures, Jacob’s sons went and killed all the males and took all the women and plunder. Yeah. Escalation. Trading one crime for hundreds. Spiraling chaos in the name of justice. Taking a village not the villain. A bad crime to start, yes, and it triggers a war. Spiraling explosion of chaos. This reminds me of Adam, of the chaos with banishment from the Garden of Eden. And of David, sinful lust cost more than just one rival’s life but multitudes of war casualties. One man’s sin destroys much more than he could imagine, especially since the sin was begun from selfishness. And the whole suffering spilling out is a continual chaos of calculated evil. Progression of evil – like an unwoven rug fray all tangled – a net knotted and made unusable.
How do we scale that back? Well we don’t, but Jesus did and does. So we must follow suit with His Hand directing us and play into life within His plan. We must not continue to toss cards of chaos into the mix that don’t follow suit. The evil in the world is like tossing the whole deck. scattering it and causing us to run after loose lost cards, flipping over trying to find ourselves. But really we need to look for our best deal in Jesus. Jesus came to pick up all the pieces, all the cards, and us. Jesus, One Man, Son of Man, Son of God, Equal to God but not Self-fulfilment-seeking – Jesus defeated evil by putting death to death. Sin scaled back by Salvation. Life returned by Loyalty. One man yes, but also now in life it is up to us to help reel in the fishes, gather the harvest, reap the ripening faith and work WITH the Lord.
Jacob wrestled with the Lord, in Genesis 32. God kept directing him to move into and from many lands, renaming him Israel and communicating with him. If only we tapped into that resource of recourse rather than take things into our own hands. Jacob and his family had many times taken the path that increased chaos and God had to redirect. Chapter 35 shows God once again redirecting the family establishing the family lines of today. God wanted him and us to accept and embrace the shuffle. God will sort it all out.
God continually does that for us, redirect and restore, and urge us to follow Him more. We are the sheep our Shepherd is trying to recover. We are the loose ends of His woven world. We are either going to buy into the chaos or work collecting the lost coins.
If we could only listen and hand our loose ends to Him and help Him weave back the world… A net restored can be employed for more fishing. Fishing of men.
One man, Jesus, fished for us all. We still are needed to pull in all those nets… Let us keep fishing for His flock. Let us not increase the chaos but the Kingdom.
Keep weaving, sorting, serving, collecting, obeying IN LOVE.
1 John 2:1-10 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.
