The Lord Questions, 01MAR
Two scripture stories come to mind in a window of peace that I have this morning, scriptures from Genesis and Elijah, where God asks His people questions, then He directs them…. And there are so many instances where the Lord questions His people… The Lord questions us too. He longs to hear our answers.
The Lord knows all things, but He still asks questions of us – we are still called to answer to Him…
Sometimes God comes in a whisper… Out of the cave, He asked Elijah a question first, before He gave Elijah life instructions… The Lord asked: “What are you doing here?”… I know that the Lord asks me the same question… I ask it myself… “What are you doing here?”… I know the questioning is an opportunity to talk with God.
The Lord wants to interact with us, He loves us, He wants to find out where we are emotionally, then to see if we trust Him, perhaps even to see if we are paying attention. Our LOVE can be shown to Him when we trust Him… And we truly need to trust Him…. He had made a promise with Noah forward to the present time that He will always take care of us. And we need to trust in that… we need to anticipate answers and listen. We need to NOT shut the Lord out, because after His questions to us comes His directions to us. He’s giving us purpose, He helps us with a plan…
Noah got instructions.
Elijah got instructions.
Jesus got instructions.
Jesus then asked His own questions of us too, and gave us instructions too… and then gave us the Holy Spirit to help.
Direction… The Lord questions, the Lord provides direction… Oh those with ears, may they hear.
Help us, Lord, today and all days to hear your voice, help us reach You… Help us to listen and obey…
Thank you Lord for asking us where we are… Thank you for loving us enough to ask. Thank you for loving us regardless of our answers… Thank you for putting us in Your plan.
Genesis, after the fall…
– 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
– 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
-Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
– 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
10 The Lord said, “What have you done?
From 1st kings 18, Elijah in the cave…
“And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
