Cross-net Cross-stitch, 07Mar

An idea popped into my head while writing a devotion…an idea for a name for our website committee, “CROSSNet”

When I don’t write a devotion for a long time, then one hits me just as I wake, I know God placed it there and I have to get it out!!!

I’ve been gathering info about our incoming new pastor and the three committee members I’ve spoken to gave me great insight – and it became clear that we are all looking to connect with this new pastor by finding similarities to us – ways we can relate, and truly each person did find something unique to them. Our lay leader picked up on a small but relevant tidbit – maybe irrelevant to others but very very relevant to her at that moment – they connected on their hobby (which also used to be my hobby) – the new pastor likes cross-stitch! Cross-stitch embroidery is specific purposeful grid-pattern work – individual stitches in X shapes are combined for a bigger picture – and it embodies the essence of the devotion that God knitted-crocheted-stitched into my head this morning…

CROSSSTITCH is what God is directing Jesus to do as He is a “Fisher of men”. Jesus is taking God’s colorful detailed plan and following it – each person in God’s timing.

When God brings someone to Jesus, Jesus stitches them into this NET of fellow believers; one by one He finds the thread to pull on our faith and He hooks us in, according to God’s plan. It’s a loop – God brings us to Jesus and Jesus is following God’s plan to bring each of us back to God, eternally….

37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.” (John 6)

… And as each person is crossed into the grid – Jesus uses His “CROSS stitch” made thru His death and resurrection to complete the loop of His love.  It is because of His CROSS that we become part of God’s NET – and we are then in turn directed to work that very NET… The Great Commission is directing us into using our skills to tell and show others the GOOD NEWS of how God has a plan – for them – God has a plan for everyone. And God sent Jesus to execute the plan.

28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8)”

I had a meeting last night about a new web committee – to reinvigorate the church website with pertinent rich content – to display eye catching info with the intent of the soul catching…. That’s the mission, soul- catching we are working God’s Net as Jesus’s brothers and sisters – God’s directing us how to spread the Good News the best we can.

And as we are looking for a committee name – CrossNet came to mind – it’s not flashy but it’s Biblical, meaningful and accurate…

CrossNet is descriptive – active – we are actively pursuing God’s directive – helping to reach across the NET to new people – invite them into this fellowship of believers – in order that Jesus can CROSSstitch each person in. Jesus reaches a CROSS across to us – to me – to you!!! And it’s Jesus who also reinforces our connection to the vine. Jesus came to let the world know of God’s plan. Jesus wants us to realize He and we are stitched into God’s plan because God LOVES us.

God loves us working CROSS-NET. Connecting with each other, watching as a Jesus Connection is made.

Amen

40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
