Prepare the Way, 25Feb (Merry Christmas in February) – #535

Prepare the Way, 25Feb (Merry Christmas in February)

I don’t worry when it rains, when I stepped years ago into my house with the realtor, I heard my father repeating my grandfather’s advice “ALWAYS live on a hill”. It rains in spring, as it should, but those 100-year floods come seemingly way too often now, but we are ok, we are on the top of the hill. My neighbors are ok too, because this 1950’s subdivision was established most properly and all the water pours down to an already natural stream and flood plain… The builders took advantage of how the natural landscape already “prepared for rain”…

If there ever is a drought, the best thing a gardener or farmer can do is prepare for the coming flooding rains is prepare the soil by first softening the soil with water – presoak it – allow the soil to open and absorb the needed water.

Preparing for Jesus, we are to presoak in the SPIRIT, to make our own fields soft and ready…

All four Gospels recorded what Isaiah foretold: A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.   –   And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together.” (Isaiah 40, Mark 1, Matthew 3, Luke 3, John 1)

Prophet John urged us to Prepare the Way – get ready. I know you all already are absorbing His great comforting ways… You have strengthened your hearts… And still do…

In a similar fashion, just like if you are someone who placed your children in daycare, you remember those early days when they were sent home with so many new ailments – tough days – but that inoculation built immune system responses that prepared their way for them to be healthier and not missing school in the elementary years… They had already been exposed to the same or similar bugs… Similarly, if you got the flu shot to prepare, you may not cover every strain that comes our way in late winter, but you were able to build up a layer of defense – to be prepared to fight the real danger germs… And a tetanus shot? Well countless times I’m so glad I’ve had it (multiple times) – my immune system prepared for rain… my body prepared for pain… I stepped into the nails, scrapes and harm of day to day life… And my path to recovery was made ready…

We need Jesus for trekking with us through the droughts and pain-causing fields of life. We need to listen to our own wilderness and hear the SPIRIT whisper inside us – reaching and teaching. When we embrace His embrace, then we are prepared for the rain and the reign – to be good soil as we open our ears and the desert of our souls. Jesus is knocking… Let’s let Him in. Let Jesus pull you out and save from sinking when you took your eyes off Him.

We are preparing for now and for eternity: ” Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” James 5

The Lord is “mighty to save”, as the song lyric harmonizes… So we are called to strengthen our hearts. Jesus is our way…

Prepare the Way…

Prepare the way
Make straight the path for Him
Let the King of Glory enter in
Let the King of Glory enter in
Who is this King of Glory

The Lord strong and mighty
The Lord mighty to save
The earth is full of His glory
Creation calls prepare the way

His love endureth forever
His power is without an end
His strength is victory’s treasure
Let all who call His name prepare the way

Let the King of Glory enter in
Let the King of Glory enter in
Let the King of Glory enter in
Let the King of Glory enter in
Who is this King of Glory
