Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

The thunderstorms are rolling through, up here at home north, and they roll in sound here with steep hills. I am not worrying about it, the rain, as this house is solid and even the newer roof dampens the sound. The porch however, which I can step out on now after thunder stopped, brings me back to childhood growing up 40-50 years ago. And my dad’s advice, repeated from his father still rings true: “live on a hill”… True, let the water roll down… 

I’m on the porch now, just rain no thunder and I think that’s great advice for the rain runs down (good for the valley which was already a floodplain) and good advice for living with volumes of information and advice and criticisms and “what not” bombarding: let it roll down the hill away from you.

In other words don’t absorb every criticism, don’t let neuroses become psychosis, “don’t sweat the small stuff”, “guard your heart”, stand on solid ground, hold onto the Rock.

Proverbs are great advice for the ages, and thousands of years old they still ring true – great sayings to give pause. Solomon wrote many in his wisdom.

The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, But He overthrows the words of the faithless.

Yesterday while driving, I passed by that church with such witty sayings, it called out: “God tests us, but it’s open book.”… so good…

This rain pours out from the sky, surely God’s advice is classic and available and open book.

The Value of a Good Name

A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

The rich and the poor have this in common, The Lord is the maker of them all.

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished.

By humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them.

Sayings of the Wise
