So many soundbite scriptures can be found in the old testament. What I mean is these are repeated and repeated and well used for teaching. Deuteronomy is the chapter where more of the law of Moses is really laid out. This scripture is one for the ages, one to keep close to mind: If you make a PROMISE TO THE LORD that you will do something, then DO IT!!!
Do the Deuteronomy Duty, Give God what is God’s. Be careful to keep your promises. Don’t make half-hearted statements. Keep your word, because He Keeps His.
Deuteronomy 22:21-23 If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin. But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty. Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the Lord your God with your own mouth.
I once promised a physical action to the Lord, when I didn’t perform it, I felt the need to keep up my end of the bargain. And yet we are human… Thank God with the Lord there is not a bargaining of blessings – just a Way, a Truth, and a Life to behold and be beheld in. Sometimes the promise we should make in many situations is that we will try.
The best promise, of course, to the Lord is to LOVE HIM. He can and will take you ALL the rest of the Way.
His Way is the Promised Way. Walk with Him.
Amen
