Merry Christmas! What a wonderful entrance of Jesus to Earth, leading to Him giving us entrance to Heaven.
I was taken by the wording on this present from my Mom, a plaque showing festive holly and holly berries and mentioning them as symbols for Jesus on the cross. The wording says “tis the season” … “for giving” which I read immediately as one word not just two, I read “for giving” as “forgiving”… oh… cool…
For giving is true, this is the season for giving gifts, so much holiday cheer, and LOVE! AND how amazing not just in word play that the action of forgiving IS giving the GIFT we have received at Christmas from God. Forgiving IS giving mercy, grace, and love from God passing through us. Jesus gave us forgiveness – He gave us forgiving not just for us but for us for giving to others, He did. He does. He wants us to pass it on. Who are we to keep this gift only for ourselves? We can’t – we must forgive if we are to be forgiven. God said so.
The Holly berries plaque came with a saying: “An old legend says that holly grew under the footsteps of Jesus Christ and the thorny leaves and red berries symbolize His suffering on the cross.”
Although we don’t know the truth of this legend of what grew under His feet, we DO know IN TRUTH that with every footstep Jesus took, He took us one step closer to Heaven.
Forgiveness from sin IS a gift this season and forever. A Season Forgiving. Forgiving for Giving. Let us accept this forgiveness and extend forgiveness to others. It is truly a gift this Christmas and always, to walk in Jesus’s footsteps, to be more like Him.
Immanuel, God IS with us.
