Take Credit for Nothing

It’s a JOY to have both kids home for the summer, we are not quite at summer yet, but this is a good season of busy, with a senior trip, graduation prep, job hunting, driver’s license and soon a car (a Subaru maybe?). Still scary for me but driving into the future is a blessing. Hold on tight, now going into the phase of me being in the passenger seat. Whew, my uncle always called the handle grips by the windows as “oh God!” bars. The insurance will be expensive, but God’s assurance is PRICELESS.

Also, a good moment ALSO of summertime’s needed rest for my college student, classes done, still has few days back and forth at school or at home for a respite and painting and petting the cat and then adventures when she can hop up to the city. Definitely we plan on traveling.

If I didn’t take full advantage of counting my blessings right now, I would be foolish, this is the JOY of them home and a hope of their futures.

One thing this summer is guaranteed to be is: TOO SHORT!

Raising kids (and budding adults) is equipping them for unknown situations, for empowering them to make decisions while quietly teaching. It takes submission by us to God to ENCOURAGE when we want to criticize, to FORGIVE when we want to retaliate, to PICK UP laundry and our CROSSES for what’s still a long ride as a parent. Best, we do what God’s placed for us to be: PRESENT.

There’s not these moments everyday for everyone, there’s still a war in Ukraine, covid lockdowns in China, and severe weather plus bad news that never makes the news anymore because it is now “old news”… How dare we not COUNT OUR BLESSINGS that we have both freedom of movement and safety. Even the issue of TP rationing is distant memory. Two years ago, I had both kids home and we prayed in huddled fear and thankfulness for that home base where we felt safe. Used to wash the groceries, shower as soon as we got home, and then leave our fear at the door. Now we think of traveling and moving forward. I pray in jumping joy.

But what’s the hitch? We must THANK GOD, He’s allowing us to breathe and be ok in a not so ok place of worldly earth. He’s given us tools to build or stockpile, tools and resources to share, ability to worship and THANK GOD in joy. And if things aren’t “perfect” then we should rethink what’s our definition of perfect.

…the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

We must be sincere in not whining. Maybe we need to submit more to Him. Think that I never did run out of TP in the pandemic, I had already grabbed a 20 pack in the weeks before I even heard of covid.  How dare I run out of praise now!  We never ran out of God.

My joy may be viewed as a boast, but I can not take credit for circumstances or the situations of deciding to be OK – having been prepared by good parents and a good God to both help me in life “make due” and make better. Our Father in Heaven leaves daily bread of life in Jesus as guidance, like manna too, to be ENOUGH for each day. Jesus is enough.

I can take credit for keeping my credit decent enough to buy a newer car, but I CAN’T take credit for the blessing of life nor the provided manna each day, and I CAN’T take credit for the physical presence of blessings that are to be CREDITED TO GOD. Especially the Lord who gave of Himself. I can’t even take credit for good sleep. I can’t take credit for nothing except appreciating everything, and even that is from the Holy Spirit pushing praise thru.

Anything worldly is going to pass away. Not God.

Take credit for NOTHING, because credit of life is the extension of faith, like a car loan but from His payments. I will take joy in advance because I know that the Lord has promised good things to me in forever, these blessings are not anything more than to show me credit is extended to my joy from Him.

So what’s the hitch? It’s a cross and open tomb, that’s the truth hitching us to glory, linked by Jesus, not by our doing. He hooked us into His Hands and Hopes.

The hitch on a car loan is you have to be faithful to pay it. To have a life loan of raising God’s kids entrusted to us is to be present. That where we best believe in God’s continued provisions. It’s a leap of faith that builds on a known track-record of His provisions. Not too much and not too little. (The hitch on the new old car that I am buying is about 1500 pound tow capacity – that’s cool – hitches HELP US – so does our hitch to the Lord.)

I don’t take it for granted that the Lord will make Life perfect, because Life will NEVER be perfect and because this is a broken world. But have faith, He has overcome the world. He will urge us to look above. He will hitch us branches to His Vine – for He has faith in us to bear good fruit.

Life is to HIS Credit.

Two Kinds of Wisdom *James 3:13-18*

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.  Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.  Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
