In Ignorance We Bliss

Standard

What a beautiful weekend. Went to two beautiful parades, plus a birthday party and memorial picnic just next door. Shopping, ice cream, walks. Ate A LOT! Even have 2 days leftovers for lunch… it’s been a whole weekend with wonderful people. SO MANY FRIENDS. Even a FROG in a pond. Beautiful weather, and a beautiful chance to be outside. I mean 2 years ago this didn’t happen – today it did. Never forget the opportunity to be where we are. Let’s forget our troubles for a while, but don’t forget the opportunity to forget them!

First parade, Saturday, in a “random” pick of where to stand, I saw three people back to back that I knew including my children’s former nursery school teacher. Wow, how crucial she was in helping my kids. But I COULDN’T remember her name, 12 maybe 15 years later. I remember now. She really was amazing for my children, I am SO appreciative.

We do have good memories but we also forget many things. I mean how can we sit and enjoy and yet we do forget the tragedies in our world, especially recently. We as society forget so quickly! And yet for some reason the Lord allows that, allows us to just be in our own space and hopefully appreciate our blessings.  We have Ignorance that is bliss. That’s mercy, we forget but the Lord will forgive the forgetfulness. He forgives A LOT. He remembers it all. He forgives because He loves. He takes the opportunity of Grace to help us Home.

Especially Memorial Day we are to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. How can we honor them best but to APPRECIATE what they did and the blessings that we do have. And this is true in our faith as well. God thru Jesus had made the ultimate sacrifice and we are super blessed beyond belief… I bet you, when we get to heaven, we will super appreciate it. It’s impossible to know how MUCH mercy the world and we have. Our Ignorance on that is not bliss. We need to humble ourselves and remember.

So I wonder in heaven, because we do have FOREVER,  will we remember all those people we forgot? Will we also meet all the people we were supposed to meet and perhaps we didn’t have time to chat with them.  For example will we meet our great great grandparents? Will we meet that baby in the store that we saw at the checkout lane and simply said a quiet prayer for their lives? Will they come up to us one time in forever and say: remember that day may 30th 2022, I was that baby…

I thought about all this as I drove past a church last week which was having a pastor’s conference, they had asked us to pray for the whole week for those pastors. I was just randomly in that neighborhood, having come from a grocery store, but in that time in place watching some leaving the parking lot  I just smiled in my heart for their dedication, and at the red light I was able to say a prayer. Three in the car next to me probably were pastors. One turned and smiled. I wondered if his spirit felt my spirit, actually the Spirit is His Own, we just feel the whisper of it. Maybe in forever, I will have time to meet them, surely thru our spirits we will know each other. Won’t that be the coolest thing?!!!

I think MOST of the best “ignorance is bliss” moments will be the grudges we forgot, the bad words and feelings gone forever. The prejudices and jealousy GONE, strife GONE, our pride GONE.

Maybe. Possibly. Probably. I mean it IS forever, right? We WILL have all the time that we don’t have now. We WILL be there when all are watching the new city roll in. Forever AND a day.

Psalm 136 is best to sum up a blissful weekend. This is a love song God wrote thru Solomon at the temple, that we could praise Him that day and FOREVER. Forever AND a day.

He remembered us in our low estate

His love endures forever.

and freed us from our enemies.

His love endures forever.

He gives food to every creature.

His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of heaven.

His love endures forever.

It really will, He said so Himself.

No more death in sin. In ignorance we bliss.

In GOD we TRUST.

Amen

Psalm 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.

His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of gods.

His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords:

His love endures forever.

To him who alone does great wonders,

His love endures forever.

who by his understanding made the heavens,

His love endures forever.

who spread out the earth upon the waters,

His love endures forever.

who made the great lights—

His love endures forever.

the sun to govern the day,

His love endures forever.

the moon and stars to govern the night;

His love endures forever.

To him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt

His love endures forever.

and brought Israel out from among them

His love endures forever.

with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;

His love endures forever.

To him who divided the Red Sea asunder

His love endures forever.

and brought Israel through the midst of it,

His love endures forever.

but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;

His love endures forever.

To him who led his people through the wilderness;

His love endures forever.

to him who struck down great kings,

His love endures forever.

and killed mighty kings—

His love endures forever.

Sihon king of the Amorites

His love endures forever.

and Og king of Bashan—

His love endures forever.

and gave their land as an inheritance,

His love endures forever.

an inheritance to his servant Israel.

His love endures forever.

He remembered us in our low estate

His love endures forever.

and freed us from our enemies.

His love endures forever.

He gives food to every creature.

His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of heaven.

His love endures forever.
