Give you that moment… 08OCT
At work this morning on fingertip processing for God – I’ve got to get back to preparing for a message I am delivering next week at my church for “Laity Sunday” – to help spread the GOOD NEWS – see God do God’s work in others…. whoda thunk I would get to stand up to say thank you to the congregation for being there for me….And share my joy which is sharing GOD’S WORD! – but right now I have to pause my prep to take a moment in time to absorb some of my reliance on God’s gift of friends who lift me.
This week I was doing my work, and God’s work too, at my work – so were many others – work is certainly a social outlet that people need, it’s a place where we extend our family – and encourage each other – it’s ALL God’s work… God was doing HIS work on me too… God was reminding me that I am to rely on Him – and “anything is possible”…
A faith friend helped me that day – because life invaded and my tears had uncontrollably spilled over – I stepped out to regain composure – my friend was on the phone but able to give me a quick massive big hug – then it was as if the tears retreated just at that moment – back into my eyes – back into my soul – I regained composure and went back to the task at hand, with a smile to lift me…
God needs our hands and feet for His work – our smiles for HIS work and He uses our arms for hugging – squeezing the tears back into our internal cups after letting enough of them out to do a cleansing rinse… a temporary release allowance for an accumulated collection of tears to spill out and trickle back in – tears are good – and the remediation of tears by hugs feels even better… as scripture reminds us to ”Carry each other’s burdens”
Later I saw a faith friend who had come in from a funeral, I gave her a big hug…. and I felt this amazing lifting of the heaviness in my own heart as well, with the feeling of a Jesus re-energization zapping back and patching that hole in back of my heart….
There’s a Tom Petty concert video where Tom says “Wouldn’t it be great just for one moment in time – everything was all right?….I want to give you that moment – where everything is bright – where EVERYTHING is going to be all right” – I hear Tom Petty’s assurances but really isn’t that Jesus who is always saying that to us, all the time for everything that pains us?
That’s what I felt in those hugs – that everything was going to be all right – if only the feeling was fleeting and if JUST for that moment in time – it was still worth knowing that “everything is going to be all right”… and even if not an immediate all right the focus on an eternal “all right” is surely all right with me….
God wants us to know that feeling of Him – wants us to think long term – to know that thru our trust in Him – that eventually He will bring us to that place with Him “where EVERYTHING is all right”… we are human and we need Jesus to squeeze our human existence thru that narrow gate… we need to be shepherded…
BE STILL and KNOW THAT I AM GOD…
When we look to the Lord, He will refill our cup – He will allow us to be still and soak up his replenishing living water – and Jesus will give us a hug-hold to stabilize ourselves to regain our cups upright position… God’s hugs can be a lid on our angst – a cover to keep our cup from splashing/cracking/leaking – if “just for that moment” in time – and GOD WILL “give us that moment”… He will – He really will…

“2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. 4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own load. 6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
