Cross-references AND Footnotes AND Foundations, 13JAN – #1041

Standard

I love reading the bible!!!

Three plays on words today in just one scripture chapter: CROSS-REFERENCE, FOOTNOTES, FOUNDATIONS

In reading foundations of faith in Hebrews chapter 1, there are tremendous cross references and footnotes. Yes of course the CROSS of Jesus, but also CROSS-references to other scriptures seen in the electronic (and scholarly notations in printed versions). So much good information buried to be raised!!!

The author of Hebrews speaks of the old testament prophecies and matches them to Jesus. That is important both to learn about Jesus AND God’s plan for Jesus and angels and us, AND to learn that the old testament writings hundreds of years prior were LONGING for Jesus to come. Prophecy cross-reference “mix and match” never was so blessedly fulfilled… (FULL-filled, filled with the FULLness of Christ)

The FOOTNOTES not just signal the position of extra tidbits of notes, but note the FOOT position of Jesus “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet” …

And in this great writing, we learn of FOUNDATIONS of faith by knowledge of the physical foundations of the earth at God and Jesus’s command:  “God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”  (Don’t you love Jesus Joy!)   “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the FOUNDATIONS of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain;  they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed.

But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”

So much information I have learned in stepping thru the bible these last few months… lots of “Oh, that’s where that’s written” – KEEP READING MY FRIENDS! There is no better foundation than that which God laid. Learning never ends. God never ends.

All of Hebrews 1 is below. The cross-references AND the footnotes AND the foundations.

Cool!!! Amen…

PS: Here’s a great history discussion about the authors of the bible, and Hebrews. The best conclusion is of course that the Holy Spirit wrote it regardless of who put pen to paper. An important note where the sections of the new testament are discussed: Hebrews “outlines our faith and defines faith itself in the same way that Romans defines the tenets of Christian living. It closes the chapters of faith alone and serves as a prelude to the chapters on good works built on a foundation of faith in God. Cool…..   https://www.gotquestions.org/author-Hebrews.html

Hebrews 1 God’s Final Word: His Son

1 In the past God spoke(A) to our ancestors through the prophets(B) at many times and in various ways,(C) 2 but in these last days(D) he has spoken to us by his Son,(E) whom he appointed heir(F) of all things, and through whom(G) also he made the universe.(H) 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory(I) and the exact representation of his being,(J) sustaining all things(K) by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins,(L) he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.(M) 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.(N)

The Son Superior to Angels

5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son;    today I have become your Father” [a]? (O)

Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son” [b]? (P)

6 And again, when God brings his firstborn(Q) into the world, (R) he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.” [c](S)

7 In speaking of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels spirits,

    and his servants flames of fire.” [d](T)

8 But about the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;(U)

    a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.

9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;

    therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions(V)

    by anointing you with the oil(W) of joy.” [e](X)

10 He also says,

“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,

    and the heavens are the work of your hands. (Y)

11 They will perish, but you remain;

    they will all wear out like a garment. (Z)

12 You will roll them up like a robe;

    like a garment they will be changed.

But you remain the same, (AA)

    and your years will never end.” [f](AB)

13 To which of the angels did God ever say,

“Sit at my right hand (AC) until I make your enemies

    a footstool (AD) for your feet” [g]?(AE)

14 Are not all angels ministering spirits (AF) sent to serve those who will inherit(AG) salvation?(AH)
