It’s time for me to dig deeper into the scriptures that talk about the disciples after Jesus’s earthly walk. PETER LEARNED A LOT in those many years after his years with Jesus. He may have seen so much, heard so much, but it took many years of processing surely for it to sink in…(Haha, that is funny, Peter sinking in)… That would be so true with us too. We need to let our faith sink in. We are to become more wise and more purposeful. And learn… BECAUSE HE KNOWS, we are to LEARN TOLERANCE and FORGIVENESS and LOVE.
Putting praise and prayer into practice: Salvation is the beginning of life, not just a holding place for the end of earthly lifetime. It’s an opportunity to grow.
Here are some scripture tidbits from 1st Peter… (I recommend the whole chapter!)
LOVE IN ENCOURAGEMENT: 1Peter4:8-11 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
OUR FAITH IS SUPPOSED TO MATURE: We are to know and grow. From 1Peter2: Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
OUR WITNESS CAN TEACH. And we can learn from the learned. I think simply about learning from older cousins and friends. How about learning from our past mistakes and learning from friends who have navigated pitfalls, our witnessing so that we don’t repeatedly fall. Sometimes I think that we are in a situation because we are to learn how to deal with a worse situation later. Better to learn now and strengthen up… From 1Peter 5: To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
PETER LEARNED – Learned by the Lord’s leading. Because he learned, so can we. From 1st Peter 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
SERVE OTHERS WITH YOUR FAITH: 12 It was revealed to [the prophets] they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.
IT IS LOVE THAT WE MUST SHARE. LOVE is all that will ever last… For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.”
THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.
