Well the Lord certainly knows how to make me kneel in humbleness. Originally I had knelt in prayer, in the kitchen just for a moment, immediately after hearing about yet another mass shooting at a workplace, so sad. And I just knelt in the sadness of the broken world of broken people. I knelt in the thought that this brokenness will continue and truly our world’s peoples tribulation time on earth is coming closer day by day. (Prepare your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near, James 1)
Like only 10 minutes later I was roughly in the same spot of the kitchen and it crossed my mind that THIS morning, after a year of waiting, it was my opportunity this very morning for my covid vaccination – no I had not really processed – still have not processed it. Also an opportunity to help a friend in need of a vaccination ride and a shot of cheer. So just as I was thinking about my blessed opportunity to get a vaccination in our appointments I scored only hours the night before, I thought I should kneel in thankfulness – but for some reason I DIDN’T – and I just let that thought pass.
VERY SOON AFTER, what a surprise!
I was on my knees – not in thankfulness but trying REALLY HARD to twist the stuck water shut off valve from the hot water pipe, which was spewing up like a hot spring fountain from where the hot water handle USED to be attached to the rest of the sink. Yeah – not good – hot – and stuck solid… Surely on my knees I was whining and eventually got a wrench and all is well at the moment, held up and secure. But YEAH, yeah so cute Lord, cute, grumble grumble ever learning to be humble… I was on my knees for enough time to say “You really DO know how to get me on my knees, Lord, when I realize that I should have been.” A wrenched heart and finally a wrenched valve closed the case. Gratefully the Lord opens our cases for forgiveness.
How will God expect and get every knee to bow to Jesus? Well, just at the sound of His name. When God chooses to close the case on this earth, scripture tells us that “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Although we would want EVERYONE to kneel in love and thankfulness, unfortunately we do know, from living in this world, and from reading ahead in reading the Book of Revelation that not all who acknowledge Jesus as Lord, will FOLLOW Jesus as Lord. It’s going to be a weeding out of hearts ready and hearts hardened and there will be those tougher to turn than that water pipe valve.
Don’t let ourselves be without a wrenched heart. Don’t let us be prideful enough to NOT kneel. Don’t be vain and ignore the glory train.
Be humbled in knee and joyful in heart. It is the Lord’s Majesty and Grace that sets Him apart.
Soften your heart and bend your knee. Accept His GIFTS, HIS PLAN. Worship HIM in LOVE.
Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
THANK YOU LORD.
For thus says the Lord,
Who created the heavens,
Who is God,
Who formed the earth and made it,
Who has established it,
Who did not create it in vain,
Who formed it to be inhabited:
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.
I have not spoken in secret,
In a dark place of the earth;
I did not say to the seed of Jacob,
‘Seek Me in vain’;
I, the Lord, speak righteousness,
I declare things that are right.
“Assemble yourselves and come;
Draw near together,
You who have escaped from the nations.
They have no knowledge,
Who carry the wood of their carved image,
And pray to a god that cannot save.
Tell and bring forth your case;
Yes, let them take counsel together.
Who has declared this from ancient time?
Who has told it from that time?
Have not I, the Lord?
And there is no other God besides Me,
A just God and a Savior;
There is none besides Me.
“Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.I
I have sworn by Myself;
The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return,
That to Me every knee shall bow,
Every tongue shall take an oath.
He shall say, ‘Surely in the Lord I have righteousness and strength. To Him men shall come, And all shall be ashamed
Who are incensed against Him. In the Lord all the descendants of Israel
Shall be justified, and shall glory.’ ”
Paul to the Philippians 2:5-11
The Humbled and Exalted Christ
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
