VBS Amen to Our Spot Cleaner Jesus

You heard of sins of omission and commission… BUT now you will hear about the sin of chocolate cake.

I titled this” SPOT CLEANER JESUS” but it also could be called “Why I should ONLY do vacation Bible school science experiment demos OUTSIDE”… LOL

So I THOUGHT it was a good idea, a chocolate cake to look like a rock and I DID have a tarp down but apparently it was not wide enough, and the kids climbed on it anyway.  I will always see in my head the kid who grabbed a piece to try to eat!…. Here I was worried about the oobleck being messy, but NO it was the CHOCOLATE CAKE that went too wild…

I used cake layers for a demo of pretend solid foundations, like small tomatoes, jello, pudding, and oobleck (cornstarch and water as a non-newtonian solid) which my eager assistant awesomely tried by squeezing or punching these items to see if they are solid and would make a good foundation…. These were NOT solid foundation materials, building upon them would only give FRUSTRATION.

Yeah the kids laughed and of course oobleck was a hit! And as always the kids loved ALL of VBS. Big kids too! The most important moment is when they all prayed to let Jesus into their hearts. That’s the point of VBS, learning the LOVE of JESUS is always near.

Our lives, if not built upon faith, will only build our frustration. HAVE FAITH IN JESUS! He is heart-holding help.

VBS lesson #3 stuck with these children: “Jesus is my FIRM FOUNDATION!” Yes, the WISE builder, building upon SOLID ROCK, is our example of how we are to build our lives upon Jesus’s WordHis Truth, His Actions including LOVE, GRACE, and FORGIVENESS.  We are to be wise life-rs and reduce our frustrations by following Him. (This is so true!)

On my apologetic knees after VBS, cleaning the chocolate cake from the nice red carpet, alongside our 2 AMAZING shepharding pastors (also on their knees cleaning), I used a spot cleaner and a vacuum, and I praised God for their dedication and their calm cool demeanor (thank you God, we learned that at VBS day #1, a Moses example, God helps us keep our cool). They had an action plan with vacuuming then water then spot cleaner. It worked. This reminds me of our own GREAT SHEPHARD JESUS with an action plan before time began. Jesus works! Jesus is I AM.

Then and now, I can only think that JESUS will have a list of our many sins and be always holding a well used bottle of “spot cleaner” for us, but in TRUTH, He will have ALREADY washed us clean by His blood. Yes, we can and should ask Him each time we know of a sin we commit, yet He ALREADY did “the dirty work” and He went to the far reaches of the depths of separation of sin from God. He took on God forsakeness for sake of our unity back to God, our Father, bridging the chasm of separation. He filled in the cracks with Himself.

With earthly oops we try remedies by making amends, which we should. Yet in all we do and don’t do, know and don’t know, it is ONLY in Jesus where all our sins are forgiven. You may want to stay in prideful “woe is me” – but you are ALREADY cleaned Heavenly. Jesus IS the One Who sets us free.

FORGIVENESS not from our AMENds but is by giving JESUS the great AMEN, saying I believe in You, Jesus. You are my Rock, my Savior, my Firm Foundation. I need Your Forgiveness and You tell me that You have given it just by my faith.

PSALM 103:8-12

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so GREAT IS HIS LOVE for those who fear him; AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST, so far has he REMOVED our transgressions from us.

AMEN AMEN Thank God!

The Wise and Foolish Builders – Matthew 7:24-28

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
