Despite the title this is probably one of the MOST serious pieces I could write. This is one of my pieces that popped into my head and instantly I knew I had to write it… it’s about serious attacks from the Devil. Leaving out details because actually it’s MORE important to focus on God’s faithfulness and see how His Grace applies to all of us…
My son came in to wake me up and he tried to tickle me under my arm, but that is a time when is SO clear to anticipate it and very easy not be tickled… it’s a learned skill to resist tickling. You can’t do that when you’re a kid… For me, having been tickled endlessly as a kid, I can tell you it was pure torture and thankfully I have now learned how to prevent feeling the torture.
So anticipation… not just for silly things like tickling, but for the serious attacks in life as well… that is what we need to do for attacks from the Devil. We need to ANTICIPATE these real and very personal attacks and put our trust in the Lord to keep us from temptation.
I won’t beat around the bush, one of the best pieces of advice a friend/counselor gave me was if you go to fight Satan then get ready to run… Satan is in the world and very destructive to all things… Surely Satan has been after me before, and especially after, I awakened and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. You surely have seen instances in your life too of the Devil attacking you… Blessedly, God can and will handle these times – but WE have to turn to HIM and admit that WE NEED HIM to help… We have to realize that we are human – and sometimes it takes more than our human strength and will to shake that Devil down… And we have to try to anticipate ongoing, real, and sometimes even seemingly unprovoked attacks with resistance and rebuke… It is best to know your weaknesses, and call upon God to help.
It is easy to detect Satan at work in this world with worldwide terrors of violence and war, the epidemic of drug use, poverty, and greed. Satan surely is testing God’s people to the breaking point on both global and personal levels.
But in OUR lives, can we REALLY spot him at work? Surely we see when God is working in our favor – that’s actually what happens when we work FOR God – and guess what? God is working for our favor even when we don’t reach for God… GOD IS GOOD. But, what about the Devil? Well, the Devil knows our weaknesses, knows our prideful ways and can be very specific and stealth in attacks… So maybe we can ANTICIPATE… We can learn to. We have to teach ourselves to anticipate.
So, when we ANTICIPATE and when we rely on God, we pray that we are able to try to see the Devil coming and say to him “No”… Rebuke is key… we can restate the truth: that Jesus rebuked and defeated the Devil – we are free to go from his grasp because Jesus paid the price…
Satan relies on complacency, God relies on compliancy.
WE can be compliant WITH God. Rebuking the attack requires us to rely on Jesus to do the fighting FOR US… We need to trust GOD’S WILL and help in this fight.
We can ANTICIPATE that Satan might and will attack us. Anticipate it, but KNOW that no one will defeat the SPIRIT that God placed in us… God wins…
Satan will use other people, will trick us, will see our complacency… We need to anticipate… Get ready… And know our GOD does NOT leave us…
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; HE will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, HE will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
I have seen our God at work in me, I truly could give you specific concrete examples and I know you could as well of God working in your lives… Keep the faith my friends, keep diligent, and anticipate the strength God brings to you when you try to stay compliant with a faithful heart… Lean on HIM…
God LOVES YOU… Call on HIM, faithfully He WILL answer… He can and will deliver us from evil. Jesus is always ready to help.
God is for you… GOD LOVES YOU…
Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)
After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
